Our Terms of Service

Since 1984, Scottish Roots has been working to ensure that its customers are always treated with respect and fairness. Below is a list of our terms and conditions - If you have any further questions, then don't hesitate to contact us.

Ordering Product

We, Scottish Roots Ancestral Research Service, 16 Forth Street, Edinburgh, EH1 3LH ("we") intend to supply you with the results of genealogical investigations.

The Product

The main characteristics of the product are outlined on our website at http://wwww.scottishroots.com. Your submitted order indicates that you have reviewed and satisfied yourself in respect of the characteristics of the Product. We are offering a personalised service, so it is impossible to predict precisely what the outcome will be - every investigation is unique. However, a typical Standard Search, for example, should result in a factual report, outlining all details (and references) from Statutory certificates, census returns, parish registers, etc. Under normal circumstances we would hope to trace a line back to the 1780s period within the time allocated to the Standard Search, though this will depend on factors such as illegitimacy, parish, etc.

Fees

Fees are broken into four categories, and these reflect the amount of research time involved. A deposit of £75 is required, the balance due once the report is complete.

  • Standard Search: £245
  • Comprehensive Search: £395
  • De-Luxe Package: £545
  • The above fees include all entrance fees, package and post. There are no hidden extras.

Payment Terms

Cheques can be used, payable to "Scottish Roots".
Credit card payments can be used on our Secure Order section, and your card will only be debited AFTER the work is complete. (Occasionally investigations have to be terminated prematurely, in which case you only pay UP TO that point. This avoids us wasting our time wasting your money)

Delivery

The results of our investigations normally take 4 to 5 weeks, depending on workload. In the event of a delay you will be notified accordingly.

Remedies & Liabilities

Nothing in this Agreement will affect your legal rights as a consumer. In the event that you are not satisfied with the report we will endeavour to rectify the situation accordingly. Occasionally typing errors occur in the transcription of certificates, in which case the report will be re-typed for you with the minimum of fuss. We offer a highly personalised service, so any dissatisfaction will be dealt with immediately. (It is to our benefit that the customer is satisfied as so much of our business is generated from repeat orders and "word of mouth" recommendations.
